Movie Night – “Bless Me Ultima”

Join the diversity team in watching the movie Bless Me, Ultima. Bless Me, Ultima is a 2013 film adaption of Rudolfo Anaya’s 1972 national best-selling novel, a Chicano literary classic, and later made into an opera. The movie is a coming-of-age story set in rural New Mexico during WW II, centering on the spiritual education of a young boy, Antonio Márez. His worldview is shaped by the arrival of Ultima, a traditional curandera, or healer, who comes to live with his family. Márez faces conflict with his traditional spirituality and Catholicism. He also faces the decision of either becoming a priest or vaquero (cowboy).
